The Civic Theatre has since hired a full-time Artistic Director, Managing Director, Technical Director, Development Director, and Assistant Technical Director, which takes some of the humdrum out of the executive board's lap, and allows them to be more executive. They still galvanize for crises; the difference is that running out of soap isn't a crisis any more. Back

6. Civic now operates the Nineteenth Street Film Series itself, and has tried to minimize the whole process of paying rent to itself, which looks shaky in grant budgets, even though it isn't. The Film Series does better for Civic than it ever did for an independent operator. Back

7. We've since broken this record. The 2000-01 season saw 19,394 total paid admissions. Television is losing ground. Back
